Since 1949，a great progress in rice breeding has been made with the hard work by generations of rice breeders in Liaoning Province. A series of breeding theories such as Indica-Japonica Hybrids，Indica-Japonica Bridge, Ideal Plant Type, Super Rice Breeding, etc.were proposed and applied in rice breeding.The yield of rice in Lioaning Province was increased from 3t/hm² before 1949 to 10t/hm² in 2010.During this period, scientists in Shenyang Agricultural University, Liaoning Rice Research Institute, Liaoning Provincial Saline-Alkali Land Utilization and Research Institute, Dandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Tieling Academy of Agricultural Sciences etc.，insisted in the breeding goals of high yield, good quality, high resistance and wide adaptability, and improved a lot of rice varieties.The representative varieties such as Liyou 57，Liaogeng 5，Liaogeng 326，Shennong 265 Liaogeng 9，Yanfeng 47，Liaoxing 1 etc.contributed to upgrade rice varieties for several rounds in Liaoning rice production history.This book first briefly outlined the rice regionalization and the rice variety evolution process in Liaoning Province, and then mainly introduced the local varieties（before 1949）and improved varieties（after 1949）from the aspects of pedigree, characteristics of yield, quality, resistance, adaption area, cultivation techniques, etc. Total 295 varieties（or lines）which were used in Liaoning rice production were documented, including 266 conventional japonica rice varieties，22 hybrid japonica rice combinations，4 cytoplasmic male sterile lines and 3 restorer lines.Moreover, this book also introduced 9 famous rice breeders who made outstanding contributions to rice breeding in Liaoning Province and even in the whole country.For the convenience of readers'reference, all varieties were arranged according to the order of Chinese phonetic alphabet. At the same time, in order to facilitate readers to access simplified variety information, a variety index was attached at the end of the book, including category, approval number and variety right number etc.。
