Since the beginning of rice breeding carried out by researchers in previous Sichuan Agricultural Institute and Sichuan Agricultural Experiment Station in early 20^thCentury, more than 600 rice varieties have been improved in Sichuan and Chongqing, contributing to the rice production of Sichuan, Chongqing and even other regions in South China. This book summarized the rice regionalization in Sichuan Basin, and the development process of rice improvement in Sichuan Province as well as in Chongqing City after it became the municipal city in 1997.Total 588 rice varieties were selected and recorded in this book, including those which played important roles in rice production of Sichuan and Chongqing, and also those approved by the Crop Variety Approval Committee of Sichuan Province since 1985 and the Crop Variety Approval Committee of Chongqing Municipal City since 1997.Among of them，474 were characterized with both text descriptions and photographs including their plants, spikes and grains individually, while the other 114 only had descriptions.All varieties were presented in two groups of the conventional and the hybrid rice in the order of Chongqing after Sichuan.Moreover, this book also introduced 12 famous rice breeders who made outstanding contributions to rice breeding in Sichuan, Chongqing and even in the whole country.For the convenience of readers'reference, all varieties were arranged according to the order of Chinese phonetic alphabet.At the same time, in order to facilitate readers to access simplified variety information, a variety index was attached at the end of the book, including category, approval number and variety right number etc.。
