Jiangxi Province has superior natural conditions for rice planting and therefore has abundant rice genetic resources. As early as the establishment of the former Jiangxi Agricultural Academy in 1934，rice breeders began to work on rice breeding mainly focused on the systematic breeding method, and so far has achieved fruitful results.From 1985 when Jiangxi Province started to implement variety approval policy, total 669 rice varieties have been approved by the Crop Variety Approval Committee of Jiangxi Province till 2014.This book summarized rice production, rice planting regionalization, and breeding history of China and Jiangxi Province.Total 512 varieties were selected and recorded in the book, including 59 conventional early indica varieties，39 conventional late indica varieties，88 local varieties and hybrid parents，272 indica three-line hybrid rice, and 54 indica two-line hybrid rice that had played major roles in rice production and rice breeding of Jiangxi Province.All varieties were described with detailed characteristics and most of them had illustrations with photos of plants, spikes and grains individually.For some varieties or hybrid combinations improved in early period, there were only brief introductions because of no detailed information or lack of seeds for taking photographs.Moreover, this book also introduced 12 famous rice breeders who made outstanding contributions to rice breeding in Jiangxi Province and even in the whole country.For the convenience of readers'reference, all varieties were arranged according to the order of Chinese phonetic alphabet. At the same time, in order to facilitate readers to access simplified variety information, a variety index was attached at the end of the book, including category, approval number and variety right number etc.。
